Ankur Ballal

He has been studying Odissi under Guru Jhelum Paranjape in Smitalay since 1995. His devotion to dance in general and to Odissi in particular has no bounds. He eats, drinks and sleeps dance. This devotion of his, added with a natural body grace made him an adept dancer. Ankur was noticed by Guru Padmavibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra and groomed further by him - as he has done with nearly all the senior students of Smitalay.

As a college student he has won the 1st prize in dance competitions conducted by Swar Sadhana Samiti, Sharada Sangeet Vidyalay and Yuvak Biradari.

He has been teaching Odissi at Smitalay for twelve years now. He has assisted Guru Jhelum Paranjape in choreography and has also choreographed Smitalay's production 'Bahinaai'.

Awards / Prizes -

  • Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Award, by Sharada Sangeet Vidyalaya.
  • First prize at the Swar Sadhana Samiti classical dance competittion.
